Le Meilleur Capitaine De Cette Vie

Iaorana I teie Po'ipo'i ia tatou:

Highlights from this past week:

- We played an Easter egg hunt/capture the flag combo. We would go into another District area and try and find the candy they hid and get their flag which was on someone. The trick was everyone had socks dipped in water and you were trying to pelt the other missionaries at the same time. Needless to say our district won and got the other districts flags.

- Emotional Resiliency who?... Our Mission President has found that it's really important for the missionaries in this mission to become more emotional resilient and self reliant. Now we gather every Tuesday for a couple hours and talk and follow this program. It's pretty solid and we already did a whole lot of it through school but at the same time a lot of missionaries come out without any direction in life so it's a good program to help them develop their own "Voyage Plan".

- After our emotional resiliency class we got some food as a district and brought it back to the chapel. We were talking and one sister was squeezing a mayo packet and then it accidentally burst and came flying at me. The mayo landed right in-between my legs and almost hit my Birkenstocks. We all kept joking how the Holy Ghost was really looking after me and deflected all that mayo.

- We had a lesson with one of our friends and she showed some interest in being baptized! We found her through door knocking and at first she was curious to see what we had to say and over the past month and a half she has really grown to love our weekly lessons.

- We finished a lesson with this one family and then I started talking about his truck. He pulled up a little after us and I could hear his Turbo. Started talking about that, and got closer to his truck. Realized that he lifted it quite a bit to which he responded yeah I lifted it 5 inches. "Do you ever take it into the mountains?" I asked. "Yeah, sometimes... I'm free in a couple weeks if you guys want to go." Cheeeee Elder Neilson was stoked and so was I.

- One of our friends keeps joking around and asking for a Porche every time we leave his house. We finally got a Porche aka a drawing of a car and a Porche logo by another Elder. The one day we go to our friends house he isn't there like whaaaat. Guess he didn't want his Porche, but we'll bring it for him next time.

- Did some contacting in this one neighborhood and didn't really get any verbal responses. We got people looking over their gates at us and staring but no one felt like talking.

- Went to a house and tried to start a conversation with a Mami but she didn't understand or just felt like ignoring us. We switched over into Tahitian and she understood us perfectly and got out of her chair to chase us away. Me and Elder Burbank (on a split) quickly walked away since the Mami's run was more of a walking pace.

- We gave talks in Sacrament meeting. We almost didn't know until our ward mission leader contacted us the day before and was like "You guys know we're talking tomorrow right?" Me and Elder Neilson were just like wait what? And then got on it.

- We finished a lesson and we're making our way down this hill when the people in charge of the power came around planted their truck in the middle of the road and started to cut this coconut tree hanging over a power line. We were stuck for a good 30ish minutes and were a little distraught at first then just laughed and was like "Ohhhh only in Tahiti would this happen"

Spiritual Thought:

- Connected Hokulea and the gospel. We were talking to this one Papi and then he started talking about Hokulea and Navigation. In the very little French vocabulary I have about sailing I started talking about how we are on this voyage of life and if we let God be the captain of this voyage everything will work out. He has the entire plan in mind. From the beginning and preparations to everyone's strengths and weaknesses as a crew. We also have one of the best navigators in this life the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is like a personal Liahona that can guide us in all aspects of our life and help us stay on course to reach our end destination or island we want to hit. I know that Heavenly Father is the best Captain that we can have in this life. If we let him prevail in our life and accept the voyage plan that he has created for us we can reach the island of eternal life one day. It won't be an easy journey. The storms of life will constantly hit our ships, but He has layers out our safety protocols or commandments and if we follow the commandments we can be safe throughout these storms. When it doesn't seem like there's any stars for you to use to navigate look to the other sources like the winds, ocean currents, and birds.
