Stand by, to Stand by... Okay..... Standing by........
Woah, if this past week could be summarized into a sentence it would be the subject line of this email or "stand by, to stand by.... okay...... standing by..." because that is how it pretty much felt like this past week. We had so many things going on and we were trying to do and plan so much all at the same time. We had a baptism and people saying they couldn't make it to give talks anymore or their replacements saying they didn't want to give the talk anymore but they would still come to show support. After that, we got approval to go to another island on a fishing vessel. We're still waiting to see if the mission is going to get us plane tickets back which I hope they do because planes only fly out once a week sooooo if we don't make it off the island we're staying another week on that island but that's fine with me because transfer are in two weeks so being on another island in the Marquesis isn't the worst thing. We also don't have any transportation, or contacts on the island so we're going in blind hoping we can find everything and also make some connections.
Highlights:
- It was Tuesday night and we were about to go to sleep and Elder Hagen tells me, "Wow, it's been a long week" to which I responded "Ohhhh nooo Elder, it's only the first day"
- One of our friends started making blonde jokes about Elder Hagen because he wasn't understanding things/spacing out. He then said "sorry it's something we do in France" and I started laughing and said that "it's something everyone does".
- We were asked to put a table on top of another table and instead of flipping the second table upside down, Elder Hagen put the feet right on top and got the other table dirty and our friend said, "Wow, he really is a blonde" made me laugh extra hard.
- We got new tires!!!! We've been trying to get them switched out but all the appointments times have been taken over at the gas station
- Since the baguettes are so cheap we started buying a few and then eating them with Olive oil and Balsamic vinegar and it's been pretty bomb.
- We were eating at a dinner appointment and started hearing dogs/goats go crazy. Two of the guys left and 10 minutes later they come back with a few wheel barrels full of dead goats. Apparently someone's hunting dogs got to our members, cousins, goats and started attacking their legs and trying to kill them. Two of our members went over killed the goats and they came back and started skinning and taking out the guts mid dinner appointment. That had to be one of the craziest dinner appointments ever. Elder Hagen was amazed at everything that was happening, and also how fast it was going down.
- We went to the tree spot where Johnny usually is but for the first time in forever he wasn't there, at the same time there was two other guys there who were taking a break from working and eating their lunch so we decided to start talking to them. Turns out one of the guys had taken the missionary lessons but had lost contact with the Elders one of them changed areas. They were stoked to talk to us and we were able to set up a time to pass by his house.
- We have seen a lot of progress from one of our friends on Ua Huka that we've been teaching over Facebook messenger. She kept talking about how much of a blessing the Book of Mormon has been in her life and how she's seen a change in her cousins life because of the book and hopes for blessings in her families life because of it. Needless to say she's sick, and definitely has a testimony of the Book of Mormon even though it might be little.
- Baptism for one of our friends went well, pretty much the entire branch showed up and then they started taking pictures with our friends friend who came in from Tahiti because he's some famous tiktokers/YouTube here and we were like "aiyaaa, oh nooo"
Lowlights:
- It's been around a month ish since the last "food boat" came in.
Spiritual thought:
A quote from a talk by Elder Neil L. Anderson entitled (My Mind Caught Hold upon This Thought of Jesus Christ),
"Filling our mind with the power of Jesus Christ does not mean that He is the only thought we have. But it does mean that all our thoughts are circumscribed in His love, His life and teachings, and His atoning sacrifice and glorious Resurrection.
Jesus is never in a forgotten corner, because our thoughts of Him are always present and “all that is in [us adores] him!” We pray and rehearse in our mind experiences that have brought us closer to Him.
We welcome into our mind divine images, holy scriptures, and inspired hymns to gently cushion the countless daily thoughts rushing through our busy lives.
Our love for Him does not shield us from the sadness and sorrow in this mortal life, but it allows us to walk through the challenges with a strength far beyond our own."
Hope you guys liked this little quote and it go you thinking because it also got me thinking.
