Service , Service , and more Service!!!!

Image
Alohaaaaaaaa, I love it here, there are so many opportunities for planned and unplanned Service. Back on the island of Tahiti it was a little hard to find Service opportunities because everything you asked everyone would say no need Elders, but here you ask people if you can help them with things like yard work and there like no need but then they let you help them anyways, they just say no need to be nice and see how you'll react. Like the subject line says, this past week has been filled with a lot of service. We did so many different things, a lot of yard work in our white shirts and ties as well as filling up bottles of water for our members. Highlights: Monday: - Went hunting and the person we were with shot 8 goats. We ended up hiking down this sketchy mountain balancing 45lbs rice sacks filled with goats on the back. We were so glad he skinned the goats on top because we definitely couldn't have carried those goats all the way back down. We even ended up taking a longer ...

The Mosquitoes Attacked

Image
Aloha nui loa ia oukou, If I could describe this past week in one word it would have to be "mosquitoes". I started off the week with 17 bites a couple days later we went to do service in an area plagued with mosquitoes and once we got back to the house I counted my bites and to my surprise I had acquired 118 bites cheeeeee. Didn't think I could get anymore and then a couple days later I saw even more decided to recount and I was a little over 200. Elder Lane said it looked like I had chickenpox's. No amount of cream or Benadryl could help. Can't complain though, still living and loving. We also had zone conference this week. It was a little different since it was all on zoom but it was still really good. We talked about using the new Preach my Gospel and also having a whole lot more "Short, Powerful, More frequent" lessons. They want us to keep lessons down to 30 minutes but our lessons are going to an hour and a half to two hours sometimes. Not that bad...

Kaoha nui ia tatou, This past week has absolutely been a blast. We sent it in all ways possible we worked hard in the mission field during the day and ate a lot in the evenings. We started off the monday with a sunrise hike which was sooooo killer. The view from the top was amazing. It was super dark and windy when we started the hike but ended up being really nice. We went to one of our friends houses for dinner and I made some spam musubi and we also made chichidango / aka mochi and they loved it and ended up putting guava jam on top and they were like Elder Ellis you need to try it. It the Hawaiian and Marquisian mix, it's amazing.  Highlights: - Made some Spam Musubi, Chichidango, Fried Noodles, and Haupia. - Found some Pu's (conch shells 🐚) Papi just needs to cut the hole into it so we can blow it but asking around works! - Got sent a vacuum and a dryer by the mission. Luiaaaa le upgrades to the house. - We scavenged for coins because our members were out of town for the ...

Woah Miracles and Trials

Another week full of work, work, and fun!!! It's always a party over here on Nuku Hiva. A lot of service as well as Catholic people with a few Jehovah's Witness' mixed in there. This past week was 4th of July and my comp was a little sad I wasn't as into it as he was. Our conversation quickly transitioned into the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom. He doesn't have an American Flag with him but I know it's flying in his heart. I still think the Hawaiian flag in our house tops it. E ola mau ka lāhui Hawai'i!!! Highlights: - Went on a sick hike last monday -Found a little excavator and had some fun - We got hotwater back! Called up the property owner because the other Elders were too shame to for the past three months he looked at the water heater sanded down some contact points and we got hot water again. - Faded Elder Lane up one morning. His hair was getting so long and he was finally like, "Yeah, I think it's finally time". So it was a full se...

Paradise!!!

Image
Woah, I honestly think I found paradise!!! The island of Nuku Hiva in the Marquises has my heart from the moment I got here. I stepped off the plane and the island looked like a desert hut during our almost two hour drive to the house the island quickly changed from desert to pine trees to tropical forests and more.  Monday: Got up early and made our way to the house of one of the mami's in our ward so I could have one last meal with her before I left. Then we went into town and had a blast chilling. Stopped at a few different shops and then got back to our car and there was a ticket.... like whaaaat? Elder Moriniere was like "Well, that's never happened before". Went to the police department and they were like you don't pay here you gotta go to another area. We finally found the area and went in and the Boss lady was like "Elders, What'd you do this time". She ended up paying for our ticket and we were just like what a miracle. Later that evening we...
