Grateful for the rain

Image
Ça Va ??? ,  The rain is nice... till you go through a few pairs of pants in one day. Nevertheless life goes on. You can't stop the rain but, you can cook a Sapporo Ichiban, change your pants, and keep smiling because life is cherreh.  Throwing it back to last preparation day, we met a member, had dinner near the docks and got to try "ninja" aka honu. My companion was extremely fast to pass the entire bowl over to me and well I couldn't be rude. The honu was already killed and although it might be illegal to catch/eat, I think Heavenly Father found a way to nicely get back at me for eating it because I ended up with an extremely upset stomach for a few days following the "ninja" experience. The meat itself is super tender and falls apart like a nice pot roast, and has a strong flavor that can only be described as the ocean. It just tastes like ocean flavored meat. Oh, and imagining a turtle swimming doesn't help it go down so eat a little and keep talkin...

Just Like Home

Well, i'm not in Utah anymore... Quickly, guess where I am... Got it?  K, well if you guessed Bora Bora then you hit it right on the dot. French Polynesia feels like home. The aloha spirit that everyone embodies is super prevalent. You'll never be hungry, because you'll slap (go eat) and once you slapped once, I hope you're ready for seconds and thirds because there's no stopping and desserts, well there's always room and if not, pray and make some room. The weather and vibe is just like Hawaii and the place itself is like a Hauula town mixed with the reef and sandbar of Kaneohe. We had to catch a bus and two trains to get from the MTC to the airport, and then a plane from SLC to LAX and then another plane to get to Tahiti. When we arrived in Tahiti me and another elder stayed the night with another companionship since we had to catch flights the next day. That night was spent trying to figure out all the clothes, books, etc... I would/could pack for the next f...

Tae'ae Lerohl's last day teaching us Pehea oe ko'u mau palala's. Howzit, and how are you all doing? So that might've not been in French or Tahitian but Hawaiian is close enough, and sometimes in class my brain gets really fried and I end up adding in some Hawaiian words while answering in Tahitian or while doing mock lessons. It's pretty fun because i'll be talking and then after I talk I have an "aha" moment and i'm just like hmmmm one, two, or even a few of those words might've actually been in Hawaiian and not Tahitian, it's getting better though I promise.  I leave for Tahiti next week Tuesday which is pretty exciting and scary at the same time. We've all been waiting so long for this day to come and miracles are flooding in, peoples visas are starting to come in at the very last minute, and everyone is grasping the languages. We were given these English to Tahitian / Tahitian to English dictionaries and they are a literal life ...

Stay on the True Course

Iaorana i teie poipoi to'u mau hoa!!! It's been an eventful week, last weekend we had general conference and were able to hear from so many amazing people and hear so many amazing talks. One of my favorite talks from conference came from Sister J. Anette Dennis. She said, "Let us remember that each person on this earth is a child of God and He loves each one". We are often quick to judge people by their outward appearance and experiences. At the same time we must think to ourselves, who am I to judge someone else while I myself don't walk perfectly. Paul says that, "You can speak with tongues, have the gift of prophecy, understand all mysteries, and possess all knowledge, even if you have the faith to move mountains, without charity it won't profit you at all." For charity is according to Moroni 7:47, "The pure love of Christ". The savior doesn't condone sin but offers us His love and extends forgiveness when we repent, and if we go un...
